Meet Brian Burk: ULTRA-MARATHON DISTANCE RUNNER
Meet Brian Burk, Ultra - Marathon Distance Runner and Author at the 2018 AmeriHealth New Jersey Atlantic City Marathon Sports & Fitness Expo.
Brian’s running adventure started in 2000 while stationed on top of the world, at Thule Air Base, Greenland. As a “mostly unfit” 30-year-old male he decided to turn his life around and commit to being active.
Since that time with a lot of help and inspiration from the running community, he has run distances from 5k up to and including four 100 Mile races, twelve 24-hour events and successfully ran across the Grand Canyon Rim2Rim2Rim.
Some of Brian’s achievements and personal bests are:
Marathon 3hr 53m 47s
Umstead 100 miler, 21hr 36m 36s
Graveyard 100 miler, solo, 23hr 05m 05s
Grand Canyon Rim2Rim2Rim 19hrs 30m
JFK50 Miler: 9hrs 36m 27s
With over 22,000 miles, Brian is in his 18th year of being a serious runner and the 10th year of focusing on Ultra-marathon events. One thing Brian found was running, especially running ultra-marathons, is an adventure. These adventures fueled a desire to tell the story of the ultra-marathon runner and to educate and inspire others. This desire to tell a running based story kicked off two features being published in a national running magazine and gave birth to Running to Leadville, Brian’s first novel.
Running to Leadville is a story about life as much as it is about running. The story defines the challenges of growing up in a divided family and the struggles of a young man trying to find himself. It also captures the heartbreak and despair of losing nearly everything. Running to Leadville is a story which may cause you to lace up your shoes, or it could give you reason to look at life from a different lens. Running to Leadville is a tale from small town Pennsylvania to the Colorado Rockies and over Hope Pass.
26.2 TIPS To Run Your Best Marathon, is Brian's second book. This book will bridge the gap between training and racing in the real world. Not a training guide or a technical manual on running a marathon with training plans and diets. 26.2 TIPS offer you lessons learned, painful ones in some cases, in making nearly every marathon mistake in the book. It will also share experiences of shaving nearly an hour off his marathon time. This book is ideal for someone looking to post the best marathon finishing time they can. 26.2 Tips to Run Your Best Marathon will capitalize on the small and often forgotten details that cost you large amounts of time on race day.
Brian will be on site at the Sports & Fitness Expo on Friday, October 19 & Saturday, October 20.
